What Is Delta-8 THC?

Many people are familiar with marijuana, but not as many are familiar with delta-8 THC,  a relatively new cannabinoid that has been gaining popularity in the cannabis industry. It is a slightly different version of the more commonly known Delta-9 THC, which is the primary psychoactive component of cannabis. Delta-8 is a derivative of Delta-9 and has a similar structure but with a few key differences.

Delta-8 THC is similar to Delta-9 THC in that it binds to the cannabinoid receptors in the body, but it does so with a much lower affinity and lower psychoactive potency. This means that it produces a milder effect than Delta-9, and it has a much lower risk of producing anxiety or paranoia. It has been known to produce a sense of relaxation and focus while reducing stress and anxiety.

Delta-8 Addiction

Even though Delta-8 is a less potent form of THC, it can still be addictive. So why is Delta-8 becoming so popular? Some people believe that it has medicinal benefits, such as relieving anxiety and pain. Others simply enjoy the fact that it’s a non-psychoactive alternative to THC.

However, because Delta-8 is a new product on the market, there is not a lot of research to support these claims. There is also the potential for abuse and addiction. As with any substance, it’s important to be aware of the risks before using Delta-8 or any other THC product. The risks of Delta-8 addiction are similar to those of Delta-9 addiction and include the following:

  • Delta-8 can be habit-forming, and people who use it regularly may develop a tolerance, which means they need to use more of the drug to achieve the same effects.
  • Delta-8 can cause withdrawal symptoms when people try to quit, including irritability, insomnia, and appetite changes.
  • Delta-8 can impair your judgment, and you may take risks that you wouldn’t normally take, such as driving while under the influence.
  • Delta-8 can interact with other drugs, and it may be more harmful when used in combination with other substances.

Despite its lower psychoactive potency, delta-8 THC can still produce a high, be addictive and cause intoxicating effects. In fact, delta-8 THC addiction is a growing concern, particularly among young men.

Marijuana Addiction Treatment Can Help

While delta-8 THC is not as potent as Delta-9, it is still important to be aware of the potential risks associated with its use. As with any substance, there is always the potential for abuse and addiction. If you or someone you know is struggling with delta-8 addiction or abuse, it is important to seek professional help.
